We are immensely proud of one of our Year 6 ARC pupils, Shahayna Begum, who recently received one, of only 10, awards at the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards. The award was in recognition of Shahayna’s determination and success in a number of sporting competitions and events.
The event was held at The Royal Armouries in Leeds and started with a VIP reception for nominees and their guests, as well as sponsors and celebrities.
The ceremony itself, was a very moving and inspirational event which show-cased children who, despite often faced with life- changing events and significant barriers to learning, have persevered and achieved to the highest potential.
Shahayna, and her school friend Vanesa, who also works within the ARC, thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Shahayna was bursting with pride as she went on stage to collect her trophy and certificate.
Staff and governors could not be more proud of Shahayna, who is a shining example of what deaf children can achieve when barriers are removed. She is testament to Girlington Primary School’s ethos of inclusion for all pupils.
