Autumn one 2017 - 2018
The start to the new academic year has been full of excitement for children at Girlington Primary School. Bradford Bulls are currently working with children in Year 4, the children are thoroughly enjoying the rugby sessions.
Year 3 pupils are enjoying a cricket workshop called Chance to Shine, this workshop is provided by West Yorkshire County Cricket, who, are spreading the power of cricket enabling children to become more confident. Mark Jobling (a West Yorkshire County Cricket Coach) is not only teaching the pupils, he is also teaching members of staff to enable them to run their own cricket sessions.
Bradford Bulls and Morrisons are working in partnership to provide schools with sports equipment for use in P.E. lessons as well as play and lunchtimes. Girlington Primary Schools application was successful and the equipment will be delivered on Monday 2nd October 2017.
The school has taken delivery of new P.E. equipment from Premier League Primary Stars which was awarded to us on a successful application in July.
Well done to the under 11 boy’s football team who won Gold medals at the West Bradford Finals on Thursday 12th October 2017. The team have qualified for the Bradford Finals in February 2018. Congratulations to the under 11 girl’s football team won bronze at the West Bradford Finals.
Congratulations to Shahayna Begum who won the Yorkshire Children of Courage Award for her outstanding Contribution to sport on Friday 13th October.
Autumn two 2017 - 2018
Children at Girlington Primary School have been exceptionally busy taking part in sports competitions this half term. The West Bradford School Games Cross Country season started with boys and girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 taking part at Beckfoot Thornton School. The performance by all who participated was remarkable, they all ran with such determination which resulted in 10 children qualifying for the Bradford School Games Final at Cliffe Castle, Keighley in January 2018.
Well done to the under 11’s Athletic team, who fully immersed and thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the competition held at Beckfoot Thornton School on Tuesday 30th November 2017.
Our two boccia teams had a fantastic afternoon taking part in the boccia competition held at Beckfoot Thornton School. The teams competed against various schools from across the West Bradford District, both teams played tactically during the course of the afternoon leading them to win a majority of their games. This in turn contributed towards one team being placed third in their league and one team qualified to play in the final. Girlington Primary School won the final seizing Gold, it was fantastic afternoon of sport.
Pupils from Year 6 have been learning the skills of hockey in a workshop provided by Bradford Hockey Club. The children have fully enjoyed the workshop which in turn has enhanced their hockey skills.
Congratulations to the under 9’s athletic team who competed against 7 other schools in the West Bradford district. The competitiveness and the enthusiasm on display at the competition secured the team a bronze medal.
In addition to the school games, children from Girlington Primary school competed in the Yorkshire Finals Primary Panathlon on Monday 4th December 2017. The Primary Panathlon inclusion team came 3rd place after competing against teams from across the Yorkshire region in the event supported by St James Place and the Yorkshire Sport Foundation.
Throughout all the competitions, all the children who represented Girlington Primary School demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship at every opportunity, as well as outstanding behaviours for learning whilst striving to be the best they can be .
