Assessment Without Levels - a quick guide for parents

Since the removal of levels all children will be working towards the end of year expectations in their year group. At Girlington Primary School year group expectations will be split into four stages, emerging, developing, secure and mastery. These stages are defined below:

Emerging Learning in their own year group, unable to apply, guidance needed.

Developing Statements not always applied correctly. Some guidance needed.

Secure They can apply the majority of the expectations most of the time, independently. They should be able to achieve the remaining statements with some guidance.

Mastery They can apply the end of year expectations in a range of contexts with very little guidance. More than 90% of statements achieved independently.

Any child who is working below their year group expectations will be described in relation to the year group in which they are developing.

Any child who is working below Year 1 developing will be assessed on P scales.
